A word from our sponsor:

Here’s a few quotes from a Dave Grohl interview that I heard today. They are the kind of quotes that both hit you up side the head and ring true at the same time. They were included in a MMM Bio piece on the development and growth off the Foo Fighters…

“If you have an obsessive compulsive desire to make music, that’s the healthiest way to be”

“Music should be it’s own reward… if that’s not enough, don’t do it.”

“If you love music you'll love playing it in your basement or on stage, it won’t matter”

Anyway, just some food for thought for all the artsies out there, and yes you too Terrin : )

My little civic...

Hey, what’s up everybody, Merry Christmas and happy new year and all that.

Christmas has been really good at my house this year, lots of good family and friends time, but unfortunately we lost a part of our family this year. After 12 years the Civic is gone. After my brothers slid off the road two weeks ago we have been fighting with SGI over the value of our car, the potential of buy back ect. But after allot of thought it was decided that it would cost far too much to fix the poor thing, and it was time to let go. I love that car, my little green civic… I learnt how to drive in that car, took my first road trip in it, learnt how to do doughnuts and got my first speeding ticket in it’s beautiful gray interior. Understandably it was really sad to see her go. Believe it or not I actually cried…

Anyway as a result of only having two cars for a busy family of four the pressure was on for my dad to find a car in record time. The fastest he has ever found a car was three months, and compared to the seven of his previous purchase we thought that was fast. Needless to say we didn’t see the two day car search ending anytime soon. There we no good civics on the market and hey are actually really expensive to buy second hand compared to other cars. For example a 1995 civic coup with A/T/C and CD was $7000 compare that to a Saturn 2001 coupe with A/T/C CD ABS power locks double air bags ect... for bout the same price. Weird hey? Anyway much to my dismay my dad found a 2002 maroon Saturn with every possible feature, standard with a 1.9L twin cam engine for about $8000. You can’t really argue with that. I did have my heart set on a beautiful little civic, but I have to let my little car go…

Today I did see a commercial for the TV show that I TVA for. That was really cool and just might be a milestone for me, just like seeing my name on the credits for the first time.

“Sleep, no I never get enough, always sick and I'm tired”

So today is the one day that I don’t have a final. Because I was up late studying I thought today would be a good day to sleep in. I was indulging in my waste of study time when the phone rang. When I say the phone rang I mean it in the multiple sense, and when I mean multiple I mean seventeen times in and hour and a half. After the fifth call I thought that I should just give up and get out of bed, but you know that feeling when it’s really cold, and your sheets are really warm and soft… I decided to fight for my right to sleep in. And the phone decided to fight back.

My brother had a final today. He was rushing to school and decided to cut off of Circle drive at the last minute to take Preston. The snow outside is so beautiful, an inch of perfect fluffy ‘movie’ snow which isn’t all that perfect for driving. My brother slid off the road, blew a tire, killed the front end and the coolest part was that the air bag blew. Don’t worry, he wasn’t hurt…

Anyway he trudged through that one inch of snow to call me from the Wal-Mart. I have a loft bed, so getting out of bed and to a phone before the answering machine picks up the call is a challenge. I thought my dad was home, so the first time I didn’t even try. The second time I was like Fine! and got to the phone just as it hung up. But then for the third time it rang in my hand and it was Scotty boy. So I had the joy of calling my mom at work and delivering the bad news. I started off with “Don’t freak out but…” and she didn’t! We’ve conditioned my mom over the years to the extent that when I called my mom to tell her that Scott was in the hospital because he shot himself in the hand with a nail gun all she said was, “Are to taking care of it?” I said that I was going to pick him up and she was totally fine. My poor mom.

Anyway my mom had to go pick up Scott and drive him to his final. The rest of the calls were from my mom to get my dad’s cell phone number (she didn’t write it down, so that took a few calls) my mom to check if my dad was home yet (another few calls), my brother to see if my dad was home so that he could he a ride, one of my dad’s friends looking for him, Scott’s girlfriend from work, my mom again, MCC looking for my parents, and on and on and on….

I finally gave up. I am usually a very stubborn person, but being woken up SEVENTEEN flippen times is a little much even for me.

Finals time is here again. In my limited experience with finals I have found that certain things are essential to keeping a firm grip on sanity. "Yargh, I bring yea the gift of Scurvy!"

I have a final tomorrow and in my tradition I am procrastinating. After all who needs to study for a “Tech for Ministry” class anyway? It is interesting to see how technology has impacted our culture and the church in particular, but I am pretty sure that I can pull it out of no where tomorrow.

Anyway I had a pretty fun weekend: The CPC Christmas party was hilarious. The class skits were amazing. Second only to my classes rendition of the Christmas story as a group of five-year-olds, pirates and mimes (I was a wise man) was Josh Brown. He and his class asked out a music video for “I like Big Bibles” Lucky I don’t think that many of the authority figures in the room (including my mom) know that it was a remake of the I like big Buts song. So good. It was nice to see everyone dolled up. And I felt really sorry for Matt. He and a few friends put on a short rap show for us. Unfortunately we are all chronically white. The closest thing we have to hommies at our school is Joe, because he is half Asian. I would pay to have a video of us trying to dance.

After a not so satisfying three hours of sleep we were packing for our trip to Regina. If anyone knows the secret to sleeping in vans or airplanes, please tell me! I just can’t do it. I slept for maybe 15 minutes the whole day. And during a nine-hour flight this summer I maybe slept for 45 minutes. HELP!

I really like the band from CPC. They are a really talented group of musicians who are not only passionate about music, but also about their faith. The services were so good. God really moved through us and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to travel around worship with so many people. And I really do like propaganda: Come to CPC!!!

Quotes of the weekend:
“That’s good teaching, you should get under that” – Just about everybody.
“Yarh, me water be breaken” - Terrin the Pirate Marry
“I’m the messiah!!!” – Piper a.k.a. baby Jesus
